Menopause Clinic

Home / Menopause Clinic

The Department of Endocrinology runs a dedicated Menopause Clinic in collaboration with the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at CMC Vellore. Established in 2002, the clinic was initiated to streamline the evaluation and management of clinical issues associated with the postmenopausal state.

Menopause marks the cessation of menstrual function in a woman’s life and typically occurs between the ages of 45 and 55 years. However, the decline in ovarian hormonal function often begins nearly a decade earlier, encompassing the premenopausal and perimenopausal phases. These transitional stages are associated with a wide range of physical, psychological, and emotional changes that can significantly affect a woman’s overall well-being.

The reduction in hormonal levels during this period predisposes women to several lifestyle-related and metabolic disorders, including hypertension, diabetes mellitus, obesity, metabolic syndrome, and mood disorders such as depression. The Menopause Clinic adopts a comprehensive and multidisciplinary approach to address these concerns, with an emphasis on early identification, preventive care, and individualized management strategies to improve long-term health outcomes and quality of life.
