World Diabetes Day Celebration 2010

The Department of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism conducted a cookery competition on October 16th at the Darling Residency Hotel. The idea of this competition was to promote awareness amongst cooks and homemakers with regard to healthy dietary habits and food in connection with diabetes and obesity. The theme for this year’s competition was Diabetes Dessert, and there were ten participants for the same. The judges for the competition were Mr. Venkatta Subbu. the owner of Darling Residency, Mrs. Sarah Jacob, former head of the Dietary Department, and Mrs. Mary Johnson, Deputy Nursing Superintendent.The winner of the competition was Mrs. Latha Ravikumar, who made strawberry yogurt - a dish which had fresh strawberries, yogurt, cinnamon, milk powder, bread slices, flax seed and almonds. The second place went to Mrs. Meenakshi Jain, who made oats halwa, and the third place went to Mrs. Roja Rekha, who made a dessert with wheat rava, green gram and musk melon seeds.The decision of the judges was based on the calorie content of food, portion quantum, ingredients used, affordability, flavour and appearance. The cookery competition this year, apart from Vellore, will extend to Trichy, Madurai and Coimbatore. The top two finalists from each city will participate in the grand finale in Vellore in January 2011.

The Department of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism conducted a Quiz on Diabetes for Nursing Students on 26th October at Wheeler Hall, Asha Building. Mrs. Rosaline Jayakaran, Dean, College of Nursing was the chief guest. The prize winners of the Quiz were - in first place to Divitha (M.Sc Nursing), Sharmila Jeyarani (PcB.Sc), Daliya Susan Varghese (B.Sc Nursing) and Shakila (Dip. Nursing); in second place were Mayur Rachel Cycil (M.Sc Nursing), Nilophor Begum (PcBSc), Sathya (Intern Nursing) and Ritu Sarkar (B.Sc Nursing), and in third place were Cathereine Priyadarshini (M.Sc Nursing), Mathew Varghese (FHNP), Sini Chacko (B.Sc Nursing) Vaishnavi (Nursing intern).


For Students(essay and painting) &Teacher (Quiz)Competition 26.11.2010

In Commemoration of the World Diabetes Day, The Department of Endocrinology, Diabetes & Metabolism conducted a Poster Competition for school students and quiz competition for school teachers around Vellore City, on 26.11.2010 at Darling Residency, Officers line,Vellore-1. Mrs. Jasmine Anand, Professor & Deputy Nursing Superintendent, CMC,& Dr. Minnie Faith, Associate Professor, Department of Bio-Chemistry CMC were the judges.

In commemoration of World Diabetes Day, the Department of Endocrinolgy, Diabetes and Metabolism conducted a Poster Competition and Exhibition on diabetes. A number of departments, including Dietary, Physiotherapy, Ophthalmology and ALC, participated in the exhibition. More than 600 people were screened for diabetes.

The poster competition was judged by Mrs. Shirley David, Additional Deputy Dean, College of Nursing , Dr. Vathsala Sadan, Additional Deputy Dean, College of Nursing and Mrs. Anupama Nambiar, Officer Administration, Stem Cell Research Unit. The prize winners of the Poster Competition were : 1st - Ms. Mahalakshmi, (Staff Nurse, Nursery), 2nd - Ms. Jamuna Paneer, (Staff Nurse, O3 West) and 3rd - Ms. Jayanthi and Ms. Rama (Dieticians, Dietary Department).

The Valedictory Function of the World Diabetes Day was organised by the Department of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism on February 5, 2011. A Music and Dance Competition for school and college students was held. In the  Song Competition, Ida Scudder School won the first place, SDA Matriculation School, the second place and EVRN Girls Higher Secondary School, the third place. Among the colleges, VIT won the first place, St Johns Nursing College, the second place and Karigiri College of Nursing, the third place. In the Dance Competition, SDA Matriculation School (Boys Team) won the first place, SDA Matriculation School (Girls Team) won the second place and EVRN Girls Higher Secondary School won the third place. Among the college, St. Johns Nursing College won the first place and Karigiri College of Nursing came second.
