As part of the World Diabetes Month celebrations, the Department of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism conducted a cookery competition on October 14. The theme for this year’s contest was Diabetic Dinner and 26 persons participated in the event. Ms. Jessy Mathew’s dinner consisting of palak rhoti, grilled chicken (oil free), sprouts delight, lapse ‘n fruit kheer was adjudged the best. Second prize went to Mrs. Savitha’s special dosai with protein chutney and mint juice. Ms. Swetha Shikha won the third prize.
The Department of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism has been conducting a host of competitions for school children and teachers to create better awareness regarding diabetes and how to prevent and control the disease.
The topics for the essay writing were “Shorter the waistline longer the lifetime” and “Effects of diet/ exercise in prevention of Diabetes”. Several students participated in this. The posters were on the Symptoms of Diabetes. There were more than 200 entries for this competition.
The first prize was won by V. Priya of Kangeyanellore Girls Higher Secondary School. The first prize for general health quiz for teachers went to Maximas Hrudai Rose, Ida Scudder School.
The following were the prize winners in the Medi Quiz and Dia Quiz competition held on October 31.

The Department of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism organised an exhibition on Diabetes on November 14, adjacent to the ISSC building. There were several stalls including free foot examination and random blood sugar checking.
More than 500 persons visited the stalls. A poster competition on 'Diabetes and Exercise' had several entries and the first place went to Ms. Rajini Karol and Mrs. Manimegalai from Dietary Department.
The Department of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism organised an exhibition on Diabetes on November 14, adjacent to the ISSC building. There were several stalls including The Department, along with other diabetes care givers held a Walkathon from Ida Scudder School to Don Bosco High School. The walk was followed by a public meeting in which experts spoke on various aspects of Diabetes prevention and care. Sri C. Rajendran, IAS, Vellore was the chief guest.
A music competition was held for college and school students and staff and CMC won the first place. At the valedictory programme of the World Diabetes month celebrations, Honourable Mayor Mr. Karthikeyan was the chief guest and Dr. Lionel Gnanaraj, Medical Superintendent presided. Congratulations to the Department of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism for organising such a variety of programmes to increase awareness among the young and the old regarding this disease which is affecting more and more people in India each year.
