Dance competition & Valedictory Programme, 2013

In connection with the Commemoration of World Diabetes Month 2013, the Department of Endocrinology, Diabetes & Metabolism, Christian Medical College Vellore, has organized Valedictory function and a self-composed Dance Competition centered around School & College students in vellore on 8th March, 2014 at Darling Residency, Vellore.The Department has taken up the daunting task of uniting the young and the old alike in its endeavor to fight the deadly epidemic of diabetes.

The chief guest for the occasion was the Principal, Dr. Alfred Job Daniel, who advised children to understand and exercise, control on what to eat, when to eat and how to eat. He emphasised the importance of physical activity and healthy food habits. A dance competition on the theme "Diabetes and the Eye" was held. The judges for the competition included Dr Priya Abraham, Dr Gladwyn, Dr TS Vijaykumar, Dr Ashita Singh, Dr Deepak Singh and Dr Alfred Cyril Roy.

Among the schools, the first prize was bagged by St. Mary’s Higher Secondary School, followed by Shanthiniketan Matriculation Higher Secondary School in the second place and Shrishti Matriculation Higher Secondary in the third place. Among colleges,  St. John Nursing College, Tutipet won the first prize, followed by Venkateswara Polytechnic College Vellore and College of Scudder Memorial Hospital, Ranipet in the second and third places respectively.

Cookery competition on 15th September, 2013

In commemoration with world diabetes day the Department of Endocrinology, Diabetes & Metabolism, is organizing a Cookery Competition in an effort to create awareness on the nutritional aspects of diabetes home management. Here is the chance for you to see innovative ideas in the making of tasty low calorie, low fat dinner for diabetes.

Eating right is vital if you’re trying to prevent or control diabetes. While exercise is also important, what you eat has the biggest impact when it comes to weight loss. But what does eating right for diabetes involved? You may be pleased to hear that your nutritional needs are virtually the same everyone else: no special foods or complicated dietary requirements are necessary.

A diabetes diet is simply a healthy eating plan that is high in nutrients, low in fat, and moderate in calories. It is a healthy diet for anyone! The only difference is that you need to pay more attention to some of your food choices—most notably the carbohydrates you eat. On this basis of creating awareness among the home makers, Cooking Competition was held on September 28, 2013 at Darling Residency, Vellore.

The Guest for the evening was Dr. Renu George, from the Department of Dermatology (CMC), gave a talk on the importance of a healthy diet in diabetes. The judges for the event were Ms. Mahendri, Head of the Department of Dietetics (CMC), Dr Renu George and Dr. Anitha Alfred. A total of 10 teams tested their culinary skills in cooking “Diabetic Sweet & Diabetic Salads”. Mrs. Madeshwari from Dietary department, CMC Vellore who prepared “Ragi Paniyaram, Green Gram Fry, Feenugreek mixed salad and Green Gram Modak” won the 1st prize, the second prize went to Mrs. Meena Choudhary from New PG Quarters CMC Vellore, who prepared “Mint Butter Milk, Sprouts Salad and Bottle Gourd Halwa” and the third prize was shared by two contestants, Mrs.Meena Rangan from Krishna Nagar Vellore who prepared “Fig Delight and Raw Papaya Salad” and Mrs. Priscilla Pari, from Medical HDU, CMC Vellore who prepared Multi Dhal Laddu, Oats with Ragi Semiya Payasam and Channa with sprout moong dhal.

Dance Competition & Valedictory Funciton on 3rd March, 2013

In commemoration with world diabetes day celebration the Department of Endocrinology, Diabetes & Metabolism, in an effort to create awareness and to share the methods of preventing diabetes and obesity which are the epidemics occurring in duality, had organized various competitions for the school and college children. The department had communicated with the schools and colleges in and around Vellore and many of them did participate in the activities enabling us to convey the fact that type 2 diabetes is preventable.

The cookery competition held on 12th October 2012, was conducted not only to innovate tasty dishes but also help practicing healthy cooking at home what a person eats has the biggest impact when it comes to weight loss. The diet for preventing obesity,diabetes as well as controlling blood sugars is virtually the same as that of a healthy diet for anyone.Thatis essentially a low fat and low carbohydrate diet. Ms. Sundhari Arumugham from Sankaran Palyam won the first prize, the second prize went to Ms. Saritha Sathish and the third prize winner was Mrs. Roja Rekha.Consolation prizes were awarded to Mrs. Kavitha, Mrs. Sweethi and Mrs. Meenakshi.

Medi Quiz was held on "Diabetes and Endocrine Disorders" for Medical Students at CHTC on October 26, 2012. The team members who won the first prize were Mr. Mithun Abraham Prakash, Joseph Chacko Paul, Meghana Kovvurie. The second prize winners wereJohn Titus George, Rosh Varghese, Vijay Alexander and the third prize was given to Akhil , Kevin John and Jayastu Senapati.

The cycle rally and walkathon for school students, college students & general public around Vellore city on 14th November 2012, from Ida scudder school to IMA hall with the theme for this year as “To Educate, Engage & Empower youth and general public on Diabetes” was to emphasize the role of exercise in preventing diabetes.

The essay and painting competition for school students and a quiz for school teachers was held on November 10, 2012. The topics for the essay and painting competitions were 'Risk Factors for Diabetes and Healthy Lifestyle Choices.' This event was to provide opportunity to the children to study in depth about diabetes and its prevention. Around 200 students and 25 teachers participated in the competitions. In the painting competition the first place went to Swati Priya (Sunbeam School), the second place to Satish Kumar (Voorhees School) and the third place to Angelina Sharon (Ida Scudder School). Two consolation prizes were awarded to Krithiga (Ethiraj School) and Praveen Kumar (Voorhees School). In the quiz competition, the first place went to Mrs. Ananda Lakshmi and Shanti Sharma from Shrishti Vidhyashram, the second place to Mrs. Swarnalatha and Ida Annie from Ida Scudder School and the third place to Mrs.Chitra and Mr. St. John's Matriculation School. The essay competition was won by Michelle Nikita and Sugan, Natarajan and Praveen was awarded the second prize, the third prize was given to Aishwarya and Bharath. The fourth prize was won by Ameena and the fifth by yazhini Melvi while th consolation prizes were given to Augustine and vetrivel.

The poster competition for the Christian Medicla college staff helped to refresh themselves about diabetes and its prevention. The posters made by Sophia Chellam, sherlin Koshy and Vasanth were chosen as the best posters.

The first prize was won by the team comprising Ms. Annie Maria Sunny,Shiny,Preetha and Anandhi. The team winning the second prize had Ms. Jincy Jose, Prasanna Kumari,Pheba Philip, Chinju T Varghees. The third prize was given to Nisha Mathew, Divya Vargheese, Jobina Jose, Merlin Baby
