  • Nipun Merchant

    Dr. Nipun Merchant received his undergraduate degree in Biology from New York University. He earned his medical degree from State University of New York where he graduated Cum Laude and was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society. He completed his General Surgery residency at Temple University Hospital in Philadelphia. He then completed a fellowship in Surgical Oncology at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York. After completion of his fellowship, Dr. Merchant was on faculty at Johns Hopkins University Medical School as an Assistant Professor of Surgery and on staff at Sinai Hospital of Baltimore. Dr. Merchant is currently Professor of Surgery and Cancer Biology at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. He is the Chief of the Section of Gl Surgical Oncology in the Department of Surgery,the Co-Leader of the Gl Oncology Program at the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center and the Director of the Vanderbilt Pancreas Center. Dr. Merchant is board certified by the American Board of Surgery,is a Governor of the American College of Surgeons,a member of the Commission on Cancer and serves on the Pancreas Cancer Panel of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network {NCCN) and the Pancreas Cancer Task Force of the National Cancer Institute {NCI). He belongs to numerous societies in which he serves in leadership roles and is on the Editorial Board of several journals.
